Who we are

The Themed Experience & Attractions Academic Society exists to enhance communication between themed experience and attractions researchers and educators in order to create new knowledge, add to the body of work in the field and facilitate teaching and learning.

The TEAAS actively engages with the academic community through a scholarly journal, and academic symposium, a dedicated website and through social media.

The Journal of Themed Experience and Attractions Studies (JTEAS) is the first scholarly journal dedicated to research, scholarship and pedagogy in the academic disciplines relevant to the planning, design, operation, and analysis of themed experience and attractions. The Journal is supported by an international editorial board comprised of leading themed experience and attractions scholars. It is produced as a collaboration between the Themed Experience and Attractions Academic Society (TEAAS), Ryerson University and the University of Central Florida. JTEAS is a peer-reviewed, open access publication. All content is freely available without charge to the user or institution.

The Themed Experience and Attractions Academic Symposium is held annually in November on the last Friday of the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Expo in Orlando Florida. Our third Symposium is scheduled for Friday, November 20th at the Orange County Convention Center. This year the Symposium will be both in-person and virtual to accommodate our colleagues who can not travel. The Themed Experience and Attractions Academic Symposium is providing opportunities for paper presentations, academic panels, networking, academic poster discussions and keynote presentations. The Symposium is made possible by the generous sponsorship and support of IAAPA and the dedicated volunteers at the TEAAS.

To increase communication an awareness the new academic disciplines of themed experience and attractions studies and themed entertainment the TEAAS provides a Directory of Academic Programs, resources, and learning tools. The directory is updated on a regular basis in response to the expanding and dynamic academic field. Our network promotes and showcases colleges and universities with curriculum across in themed experience and attractions, from courses in attraction management to ride design, engineering, theming, creation, and branding.

The TEAAS also provides a Member Directory and to facilitate direct communication between colleagues. To help expand the social media reach of the organization the TEAAS has a Linkedin group as well as a Facebook presence.
